Sketchup--tips, tricks, questions.

Use this thread for communicating about Sketchup.

  1. 1. How to get exact measurements for 2-D images. Draw a square or rectangle on the wall. As you're sizing it, you'll see dimensions appear in the measurements field at the bottom right of the Sketchup window. Without letting go of your shape, size it until you see the dimensions you want in the measurement field. Then drag or import the image into the shape and without letting go, size it until it fits (at least approximately). After you let go, you can move it, but as far as I can tell, you can't resize it.

    2. Soon you'll be making multiple installation views into 2-D graphics (jps or tiffs). If you think you might want to keep working on your installation, make sure you save the views as both skp and as image documents, because if all you have are the jpg's etc., you won't be able to work on your installation anymore.

  2. For the sculpture in our exhibit, we raised the floor in the same dimensions as the sculpture. Then we simply added a picture of the sculpture to the front of the shape.
